Who We Are & What We Do.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality and individualized care to our canine and feline companions, with compassion towards their needs and that of their families. Our client is our commitment, our patient is our purpose.
We strive to provide all our patients with the most up to date, complete and individualized care. Whether your animal companion needs a simple exam, or something more, our team is here to provide the care your family member deserves.
We accomplish this by working as a team to develop a specific care program tailored for your pet’s needs, using all our available modalities. Each animal companion is different and deserves to be treated as such. What works for one pet may not work for others.
You can walk away from Animal Hospital of Flint with peace of mind knowing that our team put in all the time and effort necessary to care for your pet, no matter the circumstances.
Veterinarian
Dr. Barbara Rutsey graduated from Michigan State University with her DVM in 1989. Throughout her career, she has gained experience in both mixed-animal and companion-animal practices. She thrives on the continuous learning required in veterinary medicine, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements through regular continuing education seminars to better serve you and your pets. Her passion for expanding her knowledge led her to earn a Master's degree in Infectious Disease from the University of London in 2014.
Dr. Rutsey is a member of the AVMA and MVMA and has previously volunteered with the Public Health Committee of the MVMA. She feels honored to give back to the profession through mentoring pre-veterinary and veterinary students, volunteering as a teacher at MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine, and participating in the veterinary school admissions interview process. She looks forward to providing your beloved pets with the best care and treatment options available.
In her spare time, Dr. Rutsey and her husband enjoy navigating challenging off-road trails in their Jeep, vacationing and snorkeling in the Caribbean, or spending time with their dogs at their cabin in the woods. Since 2014, they have been leading mission trips to Kenya, where they have developed a veterinary-based ministry to provide animal healthcare and training for the Pokot tribe.
Your furry family member is one of a kind, and we would love to provide them with a treatment plan as unique as they are!
